Where we're at

2009 Wine Tastings & EVENTS
  • carlton hill barn chandelierPre-thanksgiving open house

Nov 21th | 12:00am to 5:00pm
Taste wine from Carlton Hill, Roots and Racine, and Resonance Vineyards
$10 tasting fee (includes souvenir glass, unless turnout is breathtaking)

Saturday, November 21, between noon and 5:00, the Carlton Hill Vineyard barn door will be open to all to hear tales of torment and triumph. Join us and enjoy sampling 10 different wines from three boutique Oregon wineries.

From Carlton Hill Vineyard, you’ll be treated to the 2007 Estate Pinot Noir as well as both the 2006 and 2007 Estate Reserve Pinot Noirs. Based upon the final barrel reviews, the 2008 Carlton Hill Pinot Noir figures to be highly addictive, but may not be ready for prime time. This will be a game time decision for yours truly.

We’re not done yet. Chris Berg, producer of both Roots and Racine Wines, will pour some of his latest offerings. These will include the Crosshairs and Racine Pinot Noirs, as well as the 2008 Roots Riesling and Viognier. Chris hinted he may also bring along some library wines to pour, as will I. In 2009, I chose to sell Carlton Hill Vineyard fruit to only two wine makers, and Chris was one of them. Next year, I hope, we’ll all get a chance to taste the results.

Finally, my neighbor and oft-quoted biodynamic pioneer Kevin Chambers, owner of the prestigious Resonance Vineyards, will pour his 2007 Pulse Pinot Noir and the 2008 G Cubed White.

And yes, it would be foolhardy indeed not to include in the festivities everybody’s favorite chef and show stopper, Karo Thom. She will grace us with her presence once again, and, in a show of true kindness, will share a few culinary treasures from her new restaurant in Salem, Alcyon. Count on at least one native mushroom dish as well as a chocolate concoction designed to incite food riots.

There is a $10 tasting fee per person and, unless the turnout is ridiculous, a Carlton Hill Vineyard wine glass will be yours for the keeping. For directions, please go to www.carltonhillwines.com. MapQuest and Google Maps have been known to direct people to a portion of Cummins Road that no longer exists.
